The Translation Center <2483> announced consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ending 2024/3 on the 13th. Sales increased 3.2% from the previous fiscal year to 11.303 billion yen, operating profit decreased 2.8% to 902 million yen, ordinary profit decreased 2.2% to 938 million yen, and net income attributable to parent company shareholders increased 3.5% to 711 million yen.

Sales in the translation business were 8.458 billion yen, almost flat compared to the same period last year. In the patent field, orders from patent offices and corporate intellectual property departments, which are major customers, continued to be strong in the previous fiscal year, and sales increased 7.1% from the same period last year to 2,902 billion yen. In the pharmaceutical field, efforts were made to strengthen relationships with client companies in order to expand orders for new drug development-related documents, but orders from domestic pharmaceuticals remained almost flat compared to the previous fiscal year, and in addition, a decrease in orders from foreign pharmaceuticals, foreign-affiliated CRO (pharmaceutical development contract organizations), and medical device-related companies also had an impact, and sales fell 6.8% from the same period to 2,605 billion yen. In the industrial/localization field, orders from manufacturing customers centered on automobiles, machinery, electrical equipment, etc. expanded, but sales fell 0.3% from the same period to 2.368 billion yen due to a decline in reaction from large-scale projects in the previous fiscal year. In the financial and legal affairs field, in addition to the fact that orders for IR related documents continued to change against the backdrop of English disclosure demand from listed companies, orders from corporate management departments increased, and sales increased 1.1% from the same period to 582 million yen.

Sales of the temporary staffing business increased 4.9% from the same period to 1,174 billion yen. Sales increased because the number of regular employees remained at a level higher than the previous fiscal year due to solid demand for human resources with high language skills.

Sales in the interpretation business increased 28.2% from the same period to 1,095 billion yen, breaking a record high. In addition to continuous orders from financial institutions, pharmaceutical-related companies, precision/communication equipment manufacturers, and foreign-affiliated consulting firms, which are our main customers, sales increased by acquiring large-scale spot projects from precision equipment manufacturers.

Sales in the convention business increased 53.3% from the same period to 233 million yen. Sales increased due to the operation of multiple international academic societies.

Sales in other segments decreased 6.3% from the same period to 342 million yen. Although sales of consolidated subsidiaries (FIPAS) that prepare specifications and perform application procedures associated with foreign patent applications increased, sluggish growth in the number of students attending the interpreter/translator training school “ISS Institute” had an impact, and sales declined.

Regarding the consolidated earnings forecast for the full year ending 2025/3, we expect sales to increase 7.0% from the previous fiscal year to 12.10 billion yen, operating income to 10.50 billion yen, an increase of 16.3%, ordinary income of 1,080 billion yen, an increase of 15.0%, and net income attributable to parent company shareholders to increase 1.2% to 720 million yen.
