Simply Wall St ·  May 26 08:02

Some International Bancshares Corporation (NASDAQ:IBOC) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Director, Antonio Sanchez, recently sold a substantial US$4.7m worth of stock at a price of US$58.90 per share. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 2.6%.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At International Bancshares

Notably, that recent sale by Antonio Sanchez is the biggest insider sale of International Bancshares shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$57.91. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Antonio Sanchez divested 290.00k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$51.19. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. International Bancshares insiders own about US$333m worth of shares (which is 9.3% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
