Asia And European Markets Dip, Crude Oil Advances Towards $80 - Global Markets Today While US Slept

On Friday, May 24th, U.S. stock markets closed higher, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 advancing, while the Dow rose slightly. Positive economic data drove gains, Nvidia's strong earnings, and an improved consumer inflation outlook, marking the Nasdaq's fifth consecutive weekly increase.

According to economic data, U.S. durable goods orders rose by 0.7% in April, surpassing expectations of a decline of 0.8%, after a revised 0.8% gain in March.

Most S&P 500 sectors closed positively, led by utilities, IT, and communication services, while healthcare stocks closed lower.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained slightly 0.01% and closed at 39,069.59. The S&P 500 rose 0.70%, ending the day at 5,304.72, and the Nasdaq Composite increased 1.10%, finishing the session at 16,920.79.

  • On Tuesday, Japan's Nikkei 225 declined 0.10%, ending the session at 38,860.50, led by losses in the Marine Transport, Machinery, and Warehousing sectors.
  • Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index closed lower by 0.28% at 7,766.70, led by losses in the Industrials, Utilities, and Telecoms Services sectors.
  • India's Nifty 50 was down 0.19% at 22,888.15, and the Nifty 500 closed lower by 0.49% at 21,387.35.
  • China's Shanghai Composite was down 0.46%, ending the session at 3,109.57, and the Shenzhen CSI declined 0.73%, closing at 3,609.17.
  • Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended the session lower by 0.03% at 18,821.16.

  • The European STOXX 50 index was down 0.01%.
  • Germany's DAX gained 0.19%.
  • France's CAC slid 0.41%.
  • U.K.'s FTSE 100 traded lower by 0.20%.

  • Crude Oil WTI was trading higher by 1.61% at $78.97/bbl, and Brent was up 0.21% at $83.05 bbl.
