The Zhitong Finance App learned that, according to people familiar with the matter, Siemens Energy (SMNEY.US) is considering laying off 4,100 employees in its troubled Gamesa (Gamesa) wind turbine division. Currently, the company is in negotiations with labor representatives on structural reforms.
People familiar with the matter said that Gamesa's Danish branch may lay off about 550 employees, the Spanish branch may lay off 430 employees, and the German branch may lay off up to 370 employees.
Siemens Energy said in a statement that the company has begun negotiations on Gamesa's restructuring measures, but will only announce the results of the negotiations after discussing the details with all parties involved.
Currently, the group is facing rising pressure from internal wind turbine issues, including repairing defective turbines, which have cost billions of euros.
In May of this year, the company announced plans to carry out structural reforms to Gamesa's wind turbine business, including production cuts and layoffs, but did not specify plans at the time.
The manufacturer plans to focus mainly on the European and US markets, hoping to increase demand for offshore turbines to help offset the slowdown in onshore turbine sales.
