Despite a 30% gain in Enovix Corporation's (NASDAQ:ENVX) stock price this week, shareholders shouldn't let up. The fact that insiders chose to dispose of US$712k worth of stock in the past 12 months even though prices were relatively low could be indicative of some anticipated weakness.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Enovix

The Independent Director, Betsy Atkins, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$585k worth of shares at a price of US$16.25 each. That means that even when the share price was slightly below the current price of US$16.26, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 19% of Betsy Atkins's stake.

Insiders At Enovix Have Sold Stock Recently

The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Enovix shares. In total, insiders sold US$127k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that Enovix insiders own 16% of the company, worth about US$429m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
