Sagawa Express Co., Ltd. (hereafter, the “Company”) of the SG Holdings Group received the 25th Logistics Environment Award (sponsored by the Japan Federation of Logistics Organizations, hereinafter “this award”) for the four most initiatives.
In this award, businesses, etc. that have contributed to the development of the logistics industry in terms of reducing environmental impact by carrying out excellent environmental conservation activities, environmental awareness activities, or advanced technology development/utilization in the logistics sector due to the current situation where harmony with the environment has become increasingly important in the logistics field in recent years are also commended.
Going forward, Sagawa Express will continue to steadily advance logistics efficiency to reduce environmental impact and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

① “Low Carbon Logistics Promotion Award”

<Joint award with Fujipan Co., Ltd., Ryoyu Pan Co., Ltd., Francois Co., Ltd., and Takaki Bakery Co., Ltd. >
Project name: “Kyushu Oita Prefecture Bread Joint Delivery Project”
Outline: We have established a scheme to jointly deliver products from multiple bread makers in Oita prefecture to retail stores such as supermarkets using temperature-controlled joint distribution centers and vehicles. In addition to reducing logistics costs, we have also improved truck load rates, reduced the number of units operated, and thereby reduced environmental impact.
Effects (per year):
・Number of trucks operated: Approximately 36% reduction
・CO₂ emissions reduced by approximately 18.7%
・Distribution costs for each manufacturer: Approximately 8-10% reduction

② “Japan Logistics Press Conference Award”

Project title: “Reuse of stretch film used for transportation”
Outline: Packaging materials such as used stretch film, etc. that were individually treated by each sales office as industrial waste are sorted and collected, reused at partner companies' recycling plants, and used as raw materials for ethylene garbage bags, etc. They also buy manufactured garbage bags. Furthermore, by recommending the introduction of stretch film alternatives (green belts) for some shippers and constructing reuse operations, CO₂ emissions associated with disposal are reduced.
effects:
・In fiscal 2022, approximately 24 tons of used stretch film will be recycled into garbage bags.
CO₂ emissions equivalent to approximately 74.8 tons have been reduced.
・When used 1,000 times per green belt, it is equivalent to approximately 935 kg associated with stretch film incineration
Reduce CO₂ emissions.

③ “Special Award”

<Joint award with Seino Transportation Co., Ltd. >
Project name: “Joint transportation and delivery of luggage to Shimokita-gun, Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost tip of Honshu”
Outline: We have established a joint transportation and delivery scheme for packages to Shimokita County, Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost tip of Honshu. We aim to build and maintain a sustainable transportation network by collaborating trunk line transportation and delivery for regions with declining populations. Thus, it was possible to improve the load rate of trucks, reduce the number of units operated, and reduce labor and environmental burdens as a result.
Effects (per year):
・CO₂ emissions reduced by approximately 53%
・Truck mileage: Approximately 55.8% reduction
・Truck running time: Approximately 41.8% reduction
・Number of drivers: Reduced by approximately 44.4%

④ “Special Award”

<Joint award with Euglena Co., Ltd. >
Project title: “The 'Sustainable Delivery Project' in which users also participate and the transportation of triathlon equipment with a horizontal development of the project structure”
Outline: Customers, shippers, and carriers cooperate to implement a “sustainable delivery project” to tackle global warming countermeasures. Participants are solicited from customers who agree with the project, and an amount equal to the amount of support collected is contributed as the cost of introducing the next-generation biodiesel fuel “Susteo,” and “Susteo” is supplied to our trucks. Also, with regard to transportation of triathlon equipment, CO₂ emissions are offset with “Susto” for truck transportation, and CO₂ emissions are offset by using J-Credit for rail transportation.
effects:
・Sustainable Delivery Project: Achieved 845 approval numbers. Reduced CO₂ emissions equivalent to approximately 4.11t
・Transportation of triathlon equipment: CO₂ emissions are actually 0 tons
