Shimadzu Corporation signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement with Tokushima University, a national university corporation, on June 3 to acquire innovative technology that contributes to solving social challenges, create businesses, and cultivate and exchange human resources. Along with joint research related to "Next-Generation Light Source Technology," "Food Tech," and "Underwater Communications Technology," both parties will work on human resource development targeting researchers, technicians, and students of Tokushima University.

Tokushima University has strength in the "Next-Generation Light Source Technology," which incorporates light into medical and life medical science to lead to early detection and treatment of diseases. Our company aims to strengthen the MedTech business, which is the focus of the medium-term management plan, by aiming to commercialize a small sensor that can detect specific compounds with ultra-high sensitivity in collaboration with the Tokushima University Post-LED Photonics Research Institute (pLED). Regarding "Food Tech," we are in discussions with Tokushima University to conduct research on food and health in cooperation with clinical healthcare professionals. In addition, in "Underwater Communications Technology," we will work on strengthening our marine business by combining the underwater beam tracking technology possessed by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Tokushima University with our underwater optical wireless communication technology.

Shimadzu Corporation and Tokushima University aim to promote the social implementation of these research achievements and contribute to creating new industries to widely contribute to society.
