In this demonstration experiment, caption display and translation display with keyboard input support are possible using VoiceBiz UCDisplay, which made accurate and rapid information transmission at airport counters possible and aimed to achieve stress-free procedures, especially for customers who have hearing or language difficulties and for foreign visitors and residents in Japan that have communication difficulties with the Japanese language. We will conduct a demonstration experiment for the effectiveness and usability of the translation-enabled transparent display in customer support at the JAL special assistance counters, aiming to enhance stress-free multilingual communication. Table.jpg

About the new type of Voicebiz used in this demonstrationVoiceBiz UCDisplayRegarding "VoiceBiz."
TOPPAN developed the translation-enabled transparent display, Voicebiz, in October 2023. It has been supporting smooth multilingual communication in face-to-face communication by translating words entered through voice or keyboard input into the other person's language and displaying it on a transparent display, and responding to those with hearing or speech impairments. As of July 2024, it has been used in approximately 50 locations across Japan, such as railroads, tourist counters, commercial facilities, local governments, lodging facilities, and theme parks. Based on past demonstrations and feedback from implementation sites, TOPPAN has updated mainly two functions. UCDisplay- A new transparent display has been adopted, allowing for color displays. - By realizing "colorization," "resolution improvement," and "brightness improvement" with a display, the characters are clearly displayed, and visibility has been improved. In addition, photographs and video content can be displayed in color on the transparent display, making it possible to support more understandable conversations. We have also improved the case to increase convenience by developing original mobile trays that integrate the Voicebiz's peripherals and transparent displays, responding to demand for window operations that require movement by time zone or event utilization. The improvement also includes securing a space for handing over documents required for counter operations.

In addition to colorization, an improvement in resolution and brightness has been realized with the new transparent display. This allows for clear display of characters and improved visibility. Furthermore, photographs and video content can also be displayed in color on the transparent display, making it possible to support more understandable conversations.
Through this development, TOPPAN aims to provide support to customers with hearing or speech impairments, or have anxiety speaking with customers in foreign languages, thereby enhancing communication.
The original mobile tray carrying the Voicebiz's peripherals and transparent display has been developed to respond to the needs of window operations that require movement by time zone or event utilization. This allows for easy movement and installation in various locations.
