Over the past year, many 10x Genomics, Inc. (NASDAQ:TXG) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At 10x Genomics

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, James Wilbur, for US$619k worth of shares, at about US$42.09 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$18.75. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In the last year 10x Genomics insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that 10x Genomics insiders own 8.4% of the company, worth about US$189m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
