WAIC丨对话MiniMax创始人闫俊杰:未来全球只会剩下5家大模型企业

WAIC | A Conversation with Yan Junjie, Founder of MiniMax: Only 5 Large Model Companies Will Remain in the Global Future

新浪科技 ·  Jul 4 03:18

During the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2024), Yan Junjie, the founder of MiniMax, stated in communication with Sina Technology, "In the future, there will only be five large model companies left in the world. I don't know how many of them will be in China." In his view, in the AI era, the ratio of the AI market between internet companies and AI startups may be even more dismal than the ratio between internet and mobile internet companies, and the extreme ratio may reach 9:1.

Previously, in communication with Sina Technology and other media outlets, Zhu Xiaohu, managing partner of Jinshan River Venture Capital, stated, "There will be no independent large model companies in five years." As one of the so-called Five Tigers of large models, Yan Junjie, founder of MiniMax, responded to the above view, saying, "I think this is indeed a big challenge."

In Yan Junjie's view, the market should not look at startups separately, because internet giants are also in this market,"So the competitive pressure is indeed great, so the competitors may not be between startups, but between startups and giants."

Yan Junjie cited the development of the internet and mobile internet era, saying, "Just like the internet and mobile internet, when the mobile internet was developing, Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu, the previous generation of internet companies, actually already existed, although there were also mobile internet companies like ByteDance and Meituan emerging later, but their market capitalization may only account for about 40% of the entire mobile sector, because Tencent and Alibaba are still bigger."

In Yan Junjie's view, in the wave of mobile, the previous generation of internet companies still occupies a larger share after the transformation to mobile. In the AI era, the previous generation of companies that embrace AI will also have a larger share of the market, and the proportion of the AI market between AI startups and the previous generation of companies may be even more dismal.

"In the transition from internet to mobile internet, the ratio may have been 6:4, and in the AI era, I think it may be even more dismal than the previous era, maybe 7:3, 8:2 or 9:1." Yan Junjie said. (Wen Meng)
