Successfully demonstrated operational testing at a 30% hydrogen co-firing rate in a 400 kW gas engine cogeneration system.

Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (President: Masataka Fujihara; Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; hereinafter referred to as “Osaka Gas”) and Daigas Energy Co., Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Osaka Gas (President: Hiroyoshi Fukutani; Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; hereinafter referred to as “Daigas Energy”), together with Yanmar Energy System Co., Ltd. (President: Hiroharu Yamashita; Head Office: Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture; hereinafter referred to as “Yanmar ES”), have successfully conducted verification tests of a city gas specification cogeneration system “EP400G” manufactured by Yanmar ES by mixing 30% hydrogen fuel into city gas during its operation.
This test was conducted using the “EP400G” manufactured by Yanmar ES installed at the cogeneration experimental site in the Carbon Neutral Research Hub ANNEX Torishima site (Konohana-ku, Osaka City), a site of Daigas Energy for carbon neutral research, and a hydrogen supply facility constructed by Daigas Energy. It was confirmed that the system can operate with the same rated power generation output and power generation efficiency as city gas-only operation even when a hydrogen fuel is mixed into 30% of city gas without making significant changes to the existing cogeneration system. Based on the results of this test, we will work to further improve the technology for cogeneration systems that utilize hydrogen fuel.

This verification test used hydrogen adjusted for flow rate and pressure by a hydrogen supply facility installed by Daigas Energy to the Yanmar ES' cogeneration system “EP400G,” which is already being sold for city gas use. It was confirmed that the system maintains low NOx and stable combustion equivalent to when it is operated solely on city gas, without changing its hardware and control software except for the hydrogen supply facility.
