Sagawa Express Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sagawa Express") and Japan Freight Railway Company (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Inukai Arata, hereinafter referred to as "JR Freight") announced that they have signed a "basic agreement" to make effective use of each other's management resources on July 5th.

1. Objective of Basic Agreement

Sagawa Express provides total logistics solutions as a "true logistics solution partner" that contributes to the development of customers. Working toward achieving sustainable logistics, we strive to reduce the environmental burden and maintain a stable and robust delivery network by introducing environmentally friendly vehicles ahead of the industry, such as an express container train called "Super Rail Cargo," and modal shift with ferries.
JR Freight is a comprehensive logistics company group that is centered around the environmentally friendly freight railway, which has about 1/10th of the CO2 emissions of commercial trucks, and has been providing the public with the four values of "improving logistics productivity," "safe and secure logistics services," "realizing a green society," and "revitalizing local areas" as stated in the "JR Freight Group's Long-Term Vision 2030."
By cooperating with each other as companies that handle logistics, which is one of the social infrastructures, and making effective use of each other's management resources, we aim to improve customer convenience, solve logistics issues, improve profitability, strengthen logistics infrastructure, and contribute to the realization of a healthy and sustainable decarbonized society and the solution of social issues.

2. Outline of Basic Agreement (Collaboration)

(1) Build a competitively priced domestic transportation service that contributes to improving customer convenience by utilizing each other's management resources and promoting innovation, and solve customer logistics issues.
(2) Build an efficient infrastructure by jointly utilizing each other's services, transportation and distribution networks, systems and know-how, and improve each other's profits by jointly promoting sales.
(3) Cooperate to maintain each other's transportation in the event of transport disruption caused by weather or disasters, and strengthen the logistics infrastructure to contribute to the realization of a healthy and sustainable decarbonized society and the solution of social issues.

3. Specific Cooperation Development in the Future

(1) Expansion of the Furusato JR Freight Container Service through a joint campaign and joint sales proposals to promote further modal combinations.
(2) Joint sales efforts to implement service implementation toward expanding 31 ft. container usage on container shuttle routes.
(3) Cooperation with trucks and ships in the event of transport disruption on the railway side to enhance responsiveness.
(4) Appeal to the media and general consumers about logistics companies' efforts toward decarbonization.
