On July 10, 2024, Shimizu Construction Co., Ltd. (President Kazuyuki Inoue) received a "Construction Technology Inspection Certificate (Civil Engineering Materials, Products, Technology, and Road Maintenance Technology)"※ from the Japan Civil Engineering Research Center, which proves the validity of the application of the specifications for the reinforcing bar base material when using the machine fixing reinforcing bar "T-head construction method reinforcing bar" co-developed with Daiichi Koushuuha Kogyo Co., Ltd. (President Kotaro Hirayama) as axial direction reinforcing bar, confirming that the fixing performance required at the fixing portion can be ensured even if the application range is extended to high-strength reinforcing bar "SD590B". In addition, the T-head construction method reinforcing bar coated with epoxy resin, which contributes to the high durability of the reinforcing bar, has been verified for durability against repeated loads and has obtained the same inspection certificate. As a result, it is now possible to respond to the high-strength and high-durability needs of reinforcing bars that were previously difficult to address, and further expansion of the use of T-head construction method reinforcing bars is expected.

T-head construction method reinforcing bar is a mechanically fixing reinforcing bar with a T-shaped widening end as the fixing member. The widening part of the T-shape is formed by subjecting the reinforcing bar base material itself to high-frequency induction heating and pressure-upset forming, and there is no need to install the fixing member on site. T-head construction method reinforcing bar not only contributes to the rationalization of reinforcement work and the improvement of the fillability of concrete, but also has the advantage of higher resistance to fatigue compared to other mechanically fixing reinforcing bars that have been put into practical use because the fixing member is integrally formed with the reinforcing bar base material.

These advantages have been recognized, and T-head construction method reinforcing bars have been used in various settings since their commercialization in 1999, with application performance reaching 70 million locations to date. On the other hand, in recent years, the high-strength reinforcement of reinforcing bars used in reinforced concrete structures has been advancing, and there has been a growing demand for their application to high-strength reinforcing bars that were previously outside the application scope. In addition, higher performance is increasingly required for the durability of reinforcing bars.

Against this background, a variety of strength tests were conducted to expand the upper limit specifications of the construction technology inspection certificate for the application range when using T-head construction method reinforcing bar as axial direction reinforcing bar from the conventional SD390 to SD590B, and it was confirmed that the required fixing performance can be guaranteed even when applied to SD590B. Similarly, it has been confirmed that T-head construction method reinforcing bars coated with epoxy resin have the same fixing performance as non-coated ones through high-stress repetitive tests. Currently, the reinforcing bar specifications that can be used for mechanically fixing reinforcing bars other than T-head construction method reinforcing bars are limited to SD490, and there are no products that can be coated with epoxy resin. In the future, the advantages of T-head construction method reinforcing bars, which can respond to high-strength and high-durability needs, will be promoted, and efforts will be made to expand their application.
