On July 10th, the Director of Transport and Logistics Bureau in Hong Kong, Mr. Lin Shixiong, stated in his written response to the council member that the number of purely electric private car models on the market continues to increase, and currently about 70% of new private cars are pure electric vehicles.

According to the Zhītōng Finance app, on July 10th, the Director of Transport and Logistics Bureau in Hong Kong, Mr. Lin Shixiong, stated in his written response to the council member that the number of purely electric private car models on the market continues to increase, and currently about 70% of new private cars are pure electric vehicles. The government has also set a goal to stop registering gasoline and hybrid private cars before or by 2035. There are no plans to provide first-time registration tax incentives for hybrid private cars that still emit exhaust. On the other hand, the 2023 Policy Address has set a goal to increase the total number of public and private charging parking spaces in Hong Kong to about 200,000 by mid-2027 to support the popularization of electric vehicles.

Mr. Lin Shixiong pointed out that the Hong Kong Transport Department has been optimizing the vehicle approval process to cope with the increasing workload of type approval applications. In December 2022, the Transport Department issued new guidelines to the industry on bulk processing mechanisms, allowing the industry to import electric cars in bulk and simplify the approval application process for the same electric car models. At the same time, the Transport Department has continued to hold multiple briefing sessions for the industry and launched relevant guidelines to help the industry submit complete vehicle technical information, reducing the time needed to clarify documents and speeding up the overall vehicle type approval process. The Transport Department will continue to maintain close communication with the industry and review the vehicle inspection process and personnel arrangements to achieve better cost-effectiveness.
