Viewing insider transactions for Pilgrim's Pride Corporation's (NASDAQ:PPC ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Pilgrim's Pride Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the President & CEO, Fabio Sandri, sold US$1.3m worth of shares at a price of US$33.32 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$38.05. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 19% of Fabio Sandri's holding. Fabio Sandri was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Our data indicates that Pilgrim's Pride insiders own about US$7.6m worth of shares (which is 0.08% of the company). Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.
