HP Inc. unveiled three new Omni series computers on Monday. The most popular of the three is the OmniBook Ultra, a 14-inch laptop that features an AMD Ryzen AI 300 processor and has NPU performance of up to 55 TOPS. This will be one of the first Copilot+ computers to be powered by non-Arm processors.

The other two new all-in-one machines are the OmniStudio X 27 and OmniStudio X 31.5, with the highest configurations of Intel Core Ultra 7 processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 graphics cards. The OmniBook Ultra is expected to be shipped in August with a starting price of $1449.99. The starting price of the OmniStudio X 27 and OmniStudio X 31.5 is $1149.99 and is also expected to be launched in August.

The HP OmniBook Ultra is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI 300 processor. This chip is based on AMD's new Zen 5 architecture and promises to provide 50 TOPS of native AI performance, with an AMD Radeon 800 mobile graphics card.

AMD announced this chip earlier this month, and HP's OmniBook Ultra is one of the first computers to be equipped with this processor. HP states that the OmniBook Ultra has a NPU performance of 55 TOPS, higher than AMD's official figure for the Ryzen AI 300.

In addition, the OmniBook Ultra utilizes its AI-specific chip for multiple functions, including a 9MP AI camera using Windows Studio Effects and Poly Camera Pro applications (HP acquired Poly for $3.3 billion in 2022). More and more applications are utilizing powerful NPU chips, such as Adobe Photoshop, which are available on multiple brands of computers, not just HP's OmniBook Ultra.

In addition to surpassing Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite (45 TOPS) in NPU performance, the OmniBook Ultra is also competitive in battery life. HP claims that the new laptop has a battery life of up to 21 hours, although actual testing is needed to accurately compare the performance of competitors with Intel and Qualcomm CPUs.

Analysis shows that although this OmniBook Ultra cannot currently be called a Copilot+ PC, it will soon be able to complete its transformation. To become a Copilot+ PC, the device must be AI-optimized and meet other requirements set by Microsoft. All laptops in the first batch of Copilot+ PCs run some kind of Snapdragon X processor, but the Copilot+ brand is not exclusive to Qualcomm chips.

HP promises that the new laptop will be upgraded to a Copilot+ PC for free when Microsoft releases updates. This is a significant change as it will make the OmniBook Ultra one of the first non-Arm-based Copilot+ computers. Although Arm devices like the Surface Pro 11 are impressive, they cannot meet the workflow of certain people due to limitations of Windows on Arm.

Media reports say that HP has overhauled its consumer PC product line, saying goodbye to the Spectre, Envy, and Pavilion series. Instead, the company's consumer PCs are part of its Omni brand, while business laptops are marked as Elite. Gaming PCs, such as the HP Omen series, are unaffected by this change, but it is still a major shift for HP.

HP's new PC brand is led by the OmniBook X 14 and EliteBook Ultra G1q. These are also AI-focused machines, but they run Snapdragon X processors. The EliteBook Ultra G1q is currently the best Copilot+ PC for business users.

In addition to the OmniBook Ultra, HP also launched two new all-in-one machines on Monday. The OmniStudio X 27 and OmniStudio X 31.5 have the highest configurations of Intel Core Ultra 7 processors and optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPUs. Both all-in-ones have adjustable-height brackets and USB-C DisplayPort inputs and outputs.

Of the two, the OmniStudio X 31.5 is equipped with a 4K display, making it the "most immersive AI all-in-one in the world," according to HP, which says the screen has also received IMAX Enhanced certification.
