On Wednesday, in celebration of World Emoji Day, BLK, the world's largest dating and lifestyle app for the Black community, is teaming up with GIPHY to launch 'BLKmojis'—a vibrant collection of emojis and GIFs celebrating Black culture and its influence on social media.

Match Group's BLK Launches Culturally Representative Emojis

Owned by Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH), the powerhouse behind Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, BLK is on a mission to fill the digital space with more diverse and culturally representative emojis.

"Representation in digital and social spaces is essential," said Jonathan Kirkland, Head of Brand and Marketing for BLK. "With BLKmojis, we're excited to offer emojis that truly reflect the language and expressions of Black youth."

The 'BLKmojis' collection is designed to resonate with popular sayings, phrases, and idioms within Black culture. From fun and expressive emojis to dynamic GIFs, each icon proudly reflects the unique vibrancy and creativity of Black culture.

To bring this collection to life, BLK collaborated with Meaningful Gigs, connecting diverse designers with companies for creative projects. They selected African illustrator Wale Adeyeye, whose work beautifully encapsulates the spirit of Black culture.

"Wale's ability to draw inspiration from the world around him is evident in every 'BLKmoji,' celebrating the Black experience," Kirkland added.

GIPHY Loves Love – To Amplify The BLKmojis Campaign

GIPHY, the world's largest GIF platform, will amplify this campaign, promoting the new emojis on their platform. "At GIPHY, we love love," said Lydia Getachew, senior client lead at GIPHY. "As a Black woman, I particularly appreciate how this partnership between BLK and GIPHY has the potential to amplify Black love stories and reach a broader audience."

This partnership not only highlights the importance of diversity and inclusivity but also aims to support historically marginalized communities. With these new emojis, BLK users can enhance their conversations, making them more engaging and representative of their culture.
