ECB President Lagarde stated that the next interest rate meeting holds an open attitude towards various possibilities, but decision-makers need more information to decide whether to cut interest rates again.
The European Central Bank kept the deposit rate unchanged at 3.75% on Thursday. After the meeting, Lagarde told reporters, "There are many possibilities for what decisions will be made at the September meeting, which will depend on the performance of economic data."
She said that officials have studied three key factors that support the inflation outlook, namely wage growth, corporate profit margins, and productivity, and will conduct more research in the coming weeks and months.
Lagarde said, "If the data does confirm a slowdown in inflation, it will enhance our confidence in achieving the 2% inflation target by the end of 2025."
