Nio Day 2024 to Be Held in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is one of the most economically developed cities in China and home to the headquarters of Xpeng and GAC Group.

Nio Day 2024 will be held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province in southern China, a vote has revealed.

Voting for the event's host city closed at 9 pm Beijing time on July 21, with Guangzhou winning over two other candidates, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, and Xiamen, Fujian province, results from the Nio App showed.

Hangzhou was still leading in the vote an hour before it closed. But Guangzhou ended up with the most votes.

Guangzhou is one of China's most economically developed cities and home to the headquarters of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), GAC Group. Nio (NYSE: NIO) is headquartered in Shanghai.

Guangzhou is also one of the cities with the most Nio battery swap stations, with 65 stations as of today, according to Nio's charging map.

Nio Day is Nio's most important annual event and usually sees the launch of new models and technologies.

Nio held its first Nio Day on December 16, 2017 in Beijing, launching its first production model, the ES8.

The last event, Nio Day 2023, was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in northwest China on December 23, 2023, when Nio unveiled its executive flagship sedan, the ET9, with deliveries set to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

There are no clues as to what new models or technologies Nio will unveil at Nio Day 2024.There will be no new model releases from the Nio main brand this year before Nio Day 2024.

The company launched its sub-brand Onvo (Ledao in China) on May 15 and began pre-sales of the new brand's first model, the L60. Official launch and delivery of the Onvo L60 will take place in September.

Nio launched the process of deciding on the host city for Nio Day 2024 on June 14, with the requirement that candidate cities need to have a venue available for 10 consecutive days from December 1, 2024 to January 15, 2025, with a seating capacity of at least 8,000 people.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker on June 24 selected Guangzhou, Harbin, Haikou, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan, Xiamen and Zhengzhou as the eight shortlisted cities.

On July 6, Nio narrowed the candidates to three cities -- Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Xiamen.
