Nio (NYSE: NIO) confirmed that it will release the second-generation Nio Phone at the Nio IN 2024 Tech Day on July 27, after announcing the date of the event earlier today.

The all-new Nio Phone will also be launched at the Nio IN 2024 Innovation Day, the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced on Weibo.

Earlier today, Nio said it will hold its Nio IN 2024 event on Saturday, July 27 in Shanghai, where it is headquartered.

The company will share practices and thoughts on smart EVs powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and officially launch SkyOS, Nio's vehicle operating system, it said in a brief statement earlier today, without mentioning more.

The new Nio Phone will see comprehensive upgrades, such as for the utilization of AI large models, the smoothness of the ad-free system, and performance improvements, Nio's vice president for hardware, Bai Jian, said today.

Nio launched the first-generation Nio Phone at the Nio IN 2023 event on September 21, 2023, at a starting price of RMB 6,499 ($890).

The company's management has previously mentioned several times that the Nio Phone will get a major update once a year, just like Apple's iPhone.

The main feature of the first-generation Nio Phone is the interaction with the Nio vehicle. The device offers an action button that allows the user to quickly activate more than 30 functions, including controlling the vehicle's features such as adjusting the air conditioning and switching on and off seat massage.

Over the past few months, Nio had been giving away free Nio Phones to customers who buy its 2024 models as part of measures to enhance the appeal of the vehicles.

The first-generation Nio Phone's features, including car keys, vehicle controls, and navigation route relay, have changed car owners' habits and dramatically improved car-using experience, Bai said today.

The initial head of Nio's phone business, Yin Shujun, left the company in January this year and his job was taken over by Bai.

Bai, who joined Nio in November 2020, was previously in charge of businesses including chips and hardware at Xiaomi and Oppo.
