又一欧洲巨头调整路线:保时捷放弃电动车销售目标

Another European giant adjusts its strategy: Porsche abandons its electric car sales target.

In March of this year, the CEO of Porsche said it will stick to the target of over 80% of electric vehicle sales by 2030. On Monday, Porsche said that this is no longer the company's specific goal. “The transition to electric vehicles will take longer than we anticipated five years ago.”

Another European car giant has adjusted its goal of expanding in the field of electric vehicles.

Porsche, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, said on Monday July 22, local time, that in 2030, electric cars may account for more than 80% of Porsche's new car sales, but this is no longer the company's specific target. Porsche said in a statement on the same day that sales will depend on demand and the development of electric vehicles around the world. The statement said:

“The transition to electric cars will take longer than we anticipated five years ago.”

And just in March of this year, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume also told analysts that Porsche will “stick to” the goal of accounting for more than 80% of electric vehicle sales by the end of 2030.

The media pointed out that Porsche abandoned its electric vehicle sales target because electric vehicle sales in Europe and China, the world's largest automobile market, fell short of expectations. Prior to Porsche's official announcement, automakers including Mercedes-Benz, GM, and even Tesla adjusted their electric vehicle targets because demand fell short of expectations.

After Mercedes-Benz announced a slowdown in “full electrification” at the end of February this year, the Wall Street News article mentioned that as the staunch supporter of electrification, Mercedes-Benz's strategic adjustments made many people think that Mercedes-Benz is abandoning electric vehicles, and Europe and the US are collectively abandoning electric vehicles. But in reality, Mercedes-Benz has not given up on electric cars. It's just that the financial strength is as strong as Mercedes-Benz; it also has to make choices between long-term development and short-term changes in the market environment.

Mercedes-Benz CEO Kang Linsong's original statement is that since electric vehicles are becoming more popular than expected, Mercedes-Benz will no longer plan to fully switch to electric vehicle sales in major markets by 2030. At its core, Mercedes-Benz is slowing down the pace of electrification. Kang Linsong said that this adjustment was made because “customers and the market determine the pace of transformation.” Furthermore, Kang Linsong remains cautious about the overall market in 2024, believing that the global economic situation and the development of the automobile market are in an “abnormal degree of uncertainty.”
