1. Background and Aim

Craft tape is an adhesive tape based on kraft paper, which is most commonly used for packaging applications such as cardboard. Compared to tape with an OPP (Oriented Polypropylene/stretched polypropylene) base material, which is also widely used for packaging applications, kraft tape with a paper base suppresses plastic usage rates and can also reduce CO₂ emissions, so it is used by companies with high motivation to reduce environmental impact.
Also, since kraft tape can be cut by hand and has excellent unpacking properties, it is used in many industries where a lot of packaging is done by hand, such as logistics, moving, and office work. Recently, in response to requests from customers that “we want to reduce the trouble of removing tape from individual plastic packaging and waste at that time,” we have decided to launch a new lineup of kraft tape (unpackaged) No. 500.

2. Features of Craft Tape No. 500 (unpackaged)

① Reducing the amount of CO2 by using a bio (paper) base material and no packaging

Craft tape, which is based on kraft paper, has a biobase rate*1 of 54%, contributing to a reduction in plastic usage compared to OPP tape, and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions associated with it. Furthermore, by eliminating individually packaged packages, we can contribute to CO2 reduction of approximately 660 kg/2 per year compared to our conventional products.

② Uses an eco-friendly paper core

We use an “eco paper core,” which allows the paper core to be easily crushed by hand, on all of the kraft tapes we sell. By crushing and disposing of it by hand, the volume of garbage can be drastically reduced. Also, the paper core uses 100% waste paper.

③ “Budgerigar” with original characters

We began manufacturing tape from the beginning of our business, and we have a history of over 60 years when it comes to kraft tape. As a leading manufacturer of kraft tape, manufacturing is carried out at domestic factories in order to maintain reliable quality. Also, the outer box is decorated with the official character “budgerigar” from our tape business, which appeared this spring, and this character is also carrying out activities to make more people aware of environmental contribution efforts through SNS etc.

4. Future business development

We aim to expand awareness of environmental value through the sale of kraft tape. We will achieve “environmental contribution through packaging” by reducing CO₂ emissions by using plant-derived raw materials and promoting sales expansion of craft tape that combines convenience in domestic and overseas markets.
