Cybertruck Hits Fortnite, Rocket League: Elon Musk's Vehicle Now Featured In Games Backed By Disney Rival Bob Iger

Since launching in November 2023, the Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Cybertruck has been a top seller for electric pickup trucks. The vehicle is now making its way into several top video games.

What Happened: Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a known enthusiast of video games and electric vehicles, will see his passions converge on July 23 as the Cybertruck makes its debut in several popular video games.

The Cybertruck will debut in "Fortnite" and "Rocket League," two of the most played video games in recent years.

"Catch a ride in the Tesla Cybertruck in Fortnite tomorrow," a tweet from "Fortnite" said Monday.

According to Eurogamer, the Cybertruck will be a free in-game reward in "Fortnite." The update comes as some thought it would be a purchasable item.

Gamers can complete a series of quests in "Fortnite" between July 23 and August 7 to unlock the vehicle.

In "Rocket League," the Cybertruck can also be unlocked in a similar manner, according to Eurogamer.

Both "Fortnite" and "Rocket League" are part of the Epic Games library of games. Several Epic Games staff members voiced their displeasure with having the Cybertruck in the game, according to the report.

Gamers on Reddit also voiced their displeasure with "Fortnite's" inclusion of Cybertruck and called for a team up to battle anyone with the Tesla vehicle.

The Cybertruck is also playable in "Beach Buggy Racing," a game from Tesla available at Supercharger charging stations, with electric vehicle owners competing for top placement on local leaderboards.

Why It's Important: The inclusion of the "Cybertruck" in video games won't come as a huge surprise to Musk followers

The Tesla CEO sold a video game company at the age of 12 and has publicly praised several video games including Diablo IV, Deus Ex, BioShock and Mass Effect 2.

What may be a surprise is Musk teaming up with Epic Games, given the company's newest large investor.

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games in February, becoming a reported 9% to 10% owner of the large video game company. Tencent Holdings (OTC:TCEHY) and Sony Group Corp (NYSE:SONY) are also investors in Epic Games.

Musk has battled with Disney CEO Bob Iger over the last year after the media company pulled advertisements on social media platform X, which the Tesla CEO owns.

On the flip side, Musk has been supportive of Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney and his recent battles against technology giant Apple.

Musk may not care that Disney is an investor in Epic Games as they own a small stake, or may have forgotten that the media company invested in the video game maker.
