Kingsignal Technology (SZSE:300252) Three-year Losses Have Grown Faster Than Shareholder Returns Have Fallen, but the Stock Surges 20% This Past Week

Simply Wall St ·  Jul 24 21:32

It's nice to see the Kingsignal Technology Co., Ltd. (SZSE:300252) share price up 20% in a week. But that cannot eclipse the less-than-impressive returns over the last three years. In fact, the share price is down 32% in the last three years, falling well short of the market return.

While the last three years has been tough for Kingsignal Technology shareholders, this past week has shown signs of promise. So let's look at the longer term fundamentals and see if they've been the driver of the negative returns.

Given that Kingsignal Technology didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

Over the last three years, Kingsignal Technology's revenue dropped 7.6% per year. That is not a good result. The stock has disappointed holders over the last three years, falling 10%, annualized. And with no profits, and weak revenue, are you surprised? Of course, sentiment could become too negative, and the company may actually be making progress to profitability.

The company's revenue and earnings (over time) are depicted in the image below (click to see the exact numbers).

A Different Perspective

While the broader market lost about 19% in the twelve months, Kingsignal Technology shareholders did even worse, losing 23%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Unfortunately, last year's performance may indicate unresolved challenges, given that it was worse than the annualised loss of 5% over the last half decade. We realise that Baron Rothschild has said investors should "buy when there is blood on the streets", but we caution that investors should first be sure they are buying a high quality business. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important.
