For the first time in the industry, we calculate the CO2 emissions from the life cycle of windows and propose the most suitable windows for the region! We have started offering a new feature for the LIXIL Energy-Saving Home Simulation.
Towards widespread use of 'GREEN WINDOW,' the window that is best suited to the region for reducing environmental impact.
LIXIL Corporation (hereinafter referred to as LIXIL) has added a 'Simple life cycle CO₂ calculation function for housing' service to the design support tool for professional use 'LIXIL Energy-saving Housing Simulation.' It calculates the life cycle CO₂ emissions of windows, the industry's first※1, and recommends the best windows for your region. This service will be available from August 1, 2024.
hp inc:
Last November, TOSTEM, LIXIL's window and door brand, declared and defined 'GREEN WINDOW' as a general term for windows that achieve a rich and comfortable living environment and reduce environmental impact, and proposes windows best suited to the regions that quantitatively evaluate the environmental impact in the entire life cycle for energy saving (thermal insulation performance of windows and solar radiation heat-gain rate) and resource circulation.
This time, LIXIL will add a 'Simple life cycle CO₂ calculation function for housing' service that can evaluate the life cycle CO₂ emissions of entire living spaces while evaluating window selection that has quantitatively evaluated life cycle CO₂ emissions to promote and spread housing construction and window selection based on life cycle assessment (LCA) for the entire housing industry in the design support tool for professional use, 'LIXIL Energy-saving Housing Simulation,' the only tool that can easily evaluate the energy performance of the building envelope and primary energy use by simply entering necessary conditions such as the dimensions of each housing part and the type and size of the window. For windows, it will automatically generate a proposal report for the optimal windows tailored to each region according to the evaluation of energy-saving performance and life cycle CO₂ emissions depending on the differences in model, size, and the combination with glass.
This will enable professional users to propose to end-users about housing construction and window selection based on life cycle assessment more easily, and accelerate the efforts to reduce the life cycle CO₂ emissions in the entire housing industry.
This new function simulates the simple calculation of how CO₂ emissions change due to window selection, such as window products, size, etc. in the detached house model. In the future, it aims to build a life cycle CO₂ emission calculation function for the entire house by expanding the simulation calculation target to include opening products such as entrance doors and products other than windows.
LIXIL will continue to develop tools that support good housing construction proposals for professional users and to contribute to the realization of a rich and comfortable living environment that everyone desires.
Takayuki Isobe, Associate Professor of Sustainability at Musashino University Faculty of Engineering, commented on the 'Simple life cycle CO₂ calculation function for housing' as follows.
Through the "Housing Lifecycle CO₂ Simple Calculation Function", we hope to promote housing design that is aware of the lifecycle CO₂ emissions of detached houses, select products with lower total CO₂ emissions, and disseminate efforts toward decarbonization throughout society. In addition, since there are many construction materials other than windows in detached houses, we hope to leverage LIXIL's strength as a comprehensive manufacturer of building materials and housing equipment to expand the "Housing Lifecycle CO₂ Simple Calculation Function" even further.
*1 As of August 1, 2024. Based on LIXIL research. A free tool that uses lifecycle assessment (LCA) to easily calculate the lifecycle CO₂ emissions of windows.

About LIXIL's energy-saving housing simulation "Housing Lifecycle CO₂ Simple Calculation Function".
HP:
The "Housing Lifecycle CO₂ Simple Calculation Function" is a feature of energy-saving housing simulations that makes it easy to evaluate the performance of the building envelope and primary energy of a house by simply entering necessary conditions such as the area of each part of the house and the type and size of windows. By incorporating calculations for CO₂ emissions from construction and opening manufacturing, we calculate the total lifecycle CO₂ emissions of a house from "when it is built, when it is used, and when it is disposed of". For windows, it automatically generates a proposal report for the optimal windows tailored to the region based on the evaluation of energy-saving performance and lifecycle CO₂ emissions based on the differences in model, size, and combination with glass.
