Fisco Japan ·  23:31

As of the close on the 26th, the number of rising stocks among Nikkei constituents was 168, while the number of falling stocks was 57, and the number of unchanged stocks was 0.

The Nikkei average rebounded for the first time in 8 days. It ended the morning session at 38,057.61 yen (+188.10 yen or 0.50% from the previous day) with an approximate volume of 0.9 billion 20 million shares traded.

The US stock market on the 25th was mixed. The Dow Jones Average rose by 81.20 dollars (+0.20%) to close at 39,935.07 dollars, while the NASDAQ fell 160.68 points (-0.93%) to close at 17,181.73 and the S&P 500 fell 27.91 points (-0.51%) to close at 5,399.22. Risk aversion persisted and the market opened mixed. However, due to better-than-expected GDP and consumption growth for the April-June quarter, the pessimistic view on the economy receded and repurchases led the market to recover into positive territory. However, profit-taking sales ahead of the release of important inflation indicators suppressed upside, and the NASDAQ lost momentum, ending mixed.

Despite the rise in the Dow, the Tokyo market started with selling pressure as US high-tech stocks remained weak. The Nikkei average widened its decline to 37,668.93 yen at one point, but after selling eased, it rebounded to the 38,000 yen level. The forex market saw a yen weakening against the US dollar to around 153.80 yen per dollar, about 2 yen lower than the 5:00 PM level the previous day, and the after-hours US futures were moving in positive territory, which provided a sense of relief. Among Nikkei constituent stocks, Hino Motors (7205), Fujitsu (6702), Canon (7751), and Tokuyama (4043) were favored for their good earnings, and defense-related stocks such as IHI (7013) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (7011) also rose. In addition, Chugai Pharmaceutical (4519), SUMCO (3436), Hitachi (6501), Teijin (3401), and Fanuc (6954) were bought.

On the other hand, due to the decline in the NASDAQ, some semiconductor stocks, such as Renesas Electronics (6723), Laser Tech (6920), Tokyo Electron (8035), and Advantest (6857), were favored for selling, and automobile-related stocks such as Nissan (7201), Toyota (7203), and Isuzu (7202) were weak. In addition, Nippon Steel (5401), Kao (4452), and Kikkoman (2801) were sold. In terms of industries, oil and coal products, metal products, machinery, banks, mining, and others rose, while transport equipment, fisheries and agriculture, air transportation, electricity and gas, and services fell.
