实测FSD“差点撞车”,这个分析师困惑:特斯拉能在10月展示什么?

Test shows that FSD almost caused an accident. This analyst is confused: what can Tesla show in October?

Analyst pointed out that FSD has too low intervention requirements for drivers in some cases, and it can even continue to run when the driver is not paying attention to the road, which undoubtedly increases the risk of accidents.

Tesla's FSD has repeatedly encountered dangerous situations in practical road tests, causing analysts' concerns about system safety.

On the 30th, William Stein, an analyst at Truist Securities, revealed serious safety issues with FSD in actual road tests after test-driving Tesla's Model Y.

In the report, Stein detailed the shortcomings of FSD in dealing with complex road conditions, identifying stationary obstacles, and dealing with emergencies. He pointed out that FSD requires too little intervention from drivers in some situations, and can continue to run even when drivers are not paying attention to the road, which undoubtedly increases the risk of accidents.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has always been confident about the future of FSD and has promised multiple times that FSD will completely change the way people travel. He said on the 24th of this month that FSD will officially enter the Chinese market in version V12.5 or V12.6.

FSD is once again embroiled in safety disputes.

Stein said that FSD's ability to handle complex road conditions is clearly inadequate. The vehicle almost collided with another vehicle that had just completed a right turn, indicating that the system has defects in identifying stationary or slow-moving obstacles.

When the car in front of us had just completed a right turn, Model Y accelerated through the intersection. My quick intervention was absolutely necessary, otherwise an accident would definitely have occurred.

During the test drive, the FSD system requires too little intervention from drivers, and can even continue to run when drivers are not paying attention to the road. Stein believes that this 'excessive confidence' actually increases the risk of accidents.

I completely moved my head away from the road, and the system took 20-40 seconds to issue a warning.

In addition, FSD changed lanes multiple times on prohibited road sections, indicating that the system still has defects in understanding and complying with traffic rules.

This is Stein's second attempt at FSD, and the two evaluations are mixed. In the first evaluation, he wrote, 'Very good, but not useful today.' In this test drive, he summed up, 'There is no improvement, and it may even be worse.'

Stein's two drives were carried out in sunny and dry suburban New York. He said that the tested FSD version 'is indeed great, but far from 'solving' the problem of self-driving'.

With the slowdown in electric car sales, Musk has become more focused on FSD and Tesla's wider AI efforts. Tesla's stock price has experienced roller coaster-like fluctuations, falling 40% from the beginning of the year to April, but rising in June. Tesla's stock price is currently $232.

Tesla has no comment on Stein's report. Musk announced on X on Monday that Tesla is deploying an upgraded version of FSD, but 'this does not mean that the company can 'fully' achieve autonomous driving.'

The October press conference will undoubtedly be a major focus of Tesla and the entire self-driving industry. Can they really launch a mature RoboTaxi prototype in just a few months, as Musk hopes? Let us wait and see.
