BYD will launch the 2025 Seal EV and the new Seal 07 DM-i on August 8. The former will be the first sedan based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, while the latter will be equipped with DM 5.0 hybrid technology.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will launch two new sedan models in the Seal lineup in 2 days, continuing its fast pace of launching new products.

The 2025 Seal and the new Seal 07 DM-i will go on sale on August 8, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced yesterday on Weibo.

The BYD Seal was initially launched in China on July 29, 2022, when it was offered only in battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, and was seen as one of the strongest rivals to the Tesla Model 3 in China.

On September 6, 2023, BYD launched the hybrid Seal DM-i, expanding the Seal lineup. On May 28 this year, BYD launched the Seal 06 DM-i with the latest DM 5.0 technology as a new addition to the Seal series.

For the all-electric Seal EV, the upcoming new update comes less than five months after its last update on March 25 this year, highlighting BYD's fast pace in updating its products.

BYD launched the Seal EV Glory Edition on March 25 at a starting price of RMB 179,800 ($25,140), a RMB 10,000, or 5.27 percent, reduction from its predecessor's RMB 189,800 price tag.

BYD originally wanted to rename the 2025 Seal EV as the Seal 07 EV, but kept the Seal EV name after receiving feedback from its user community.

The 2025 Seal EV will be the first sedan model of BYD's e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture -- an upgraded version of the company's BEV platform, e-Platform 3.0, Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean series sales, said on Weibo yesterday.

BYD launched the e-Platform 3.0 Evo on May 10, along with the first model based on the new platform, the Sealion 07 EV, which is an SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The e-Platform 3.0 Evo boasts a higher level of integration, more powerful powertrain performance, and charging performance, BYD said on May 10.

The upgraded BEV platform has a 12-in-1 electric drive system, which is a higher level of integration than the e-Platform 3.0's 8-in-1.

BYD has begun previewing the 2025 Seal EV over the past week, releasing images of the model's exterior and interior that show it will be equipped with LiDAR.

The hybrid Seal 07 DM-i, on the other hand, will be equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM technology, which will achieve new breakthroughs in fuel consumption and range among its class, Zhang said yesterday.

BYD unveiled its DM 5.0 hybrid technology on May 28, allowing for lower fuel consumption. The Seal 06 DM-i and the Qin L DM-i are the first two models to feature the technology, both with a combined range of more than 2,000 kilometers.
