The Yuan Up is the ninth model BYD has launched in Chile, where the model has been rebranded as the Yuan Pro.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has brought its compact electric SUV Yuan Up to Chile, continuing to expand its product lineup in overseas markets.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker recently launched the Yuan Up in a mountain village called Farellones in the Chilean capital of Santiago, marking the ninth model offered by BYD in the country, according to a press release yesterday.
Notably, the model is not using the Yun Up name in Chile, but has been renamed the Yuan Pro.
In China, the Yuan Up and Yuan Pro are two different models in BYD's Yuan family, albeit not very different in size. The Yuan family models also inlcude the Yuan Plus.
The Yuan Up went on sale in China on March 26 of this year at a starting price of RMB 96,800 ($13,500). It measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.
The Yuan Pro was initially launched in China on March 21, 2021, and the currently available 2023 Yuan Pro was launched on May 21, 2023, with a starting price of RMB 95,800 yuan. It measures 4,375 mm in length, 1,785 mm in height and 1,680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,535 mm.
BYD offers two options for the Yuan Up in Chile with a starting price of 24,990,000 Chilean pesos ($26,490).
In Chile, BYD brought its first electric bus to Santiago in 2017 and entered into a strategic partnership with local car dealer Astara Group in 2022.
The Yuan Up's launch in Chile is also the result of a joint effort between BYD and Astara.
BYD last launched a new model in Chile in April of this year, when it launched the Dolphin Mini there, which is known as the Seagull in China.
BYD ceased production and sales of cars powered entirely by combustion engines in March 2022, switching to a focus on producing plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.
The company sold 342,383 NEVs in July, up 30.60 percent from a year earlier and up 0.21 percent from June, according to data it released on August 1.
That included 340,799 passenger NEVs and 1,584 commercial NEVs. In July, BYD sold 30,014 NEVs in overseas markets.
