Henry Hub natural gas prices in Europe soared to a new high this year, following reports that the Ukrainian military had seized a key natural gas transit station in Sudzha, within Russian territory.
The benchmark contract rose as much as 5.8% to €38.79 per megawatt-hour, surpassing the intraday high set in early June. Traders have been cautious about potential interruptions to the Sudzha transit station, which is currently the only natural gas import point for Russian gas transported through Ukraine to Europe.
Gazprom PJSC, the Russian state-owned natural gas company, declined to comment on the matter. However, the Ukrainian gas transmission system operator said in its daily update that gas flows on Thursday would remain within normal ranges.
