Tobishima Container Berth Co., Ltd. and Toyota Industries Corporation proposed a "Technology development for cargo handling instruction optimization based on cargo handling equipment operation status" in response to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's solicitation for technical development challenges on the "Port Technology Development System" (2nd term), and were selected. We will develop and demonstrate the system from August 2024 to the end of fiscal year 2026 with the aim of improving the productivity of container terminal operations.
In recent years, due to environmental considerations and cost reduction, container vessels have been increasing in size, and the amount of loading and unloading per ship has been increasing, requiring shorter work hours. In addition, labor shortages at ports are also a challenge, and efficient terminal operations using digital technology are required.
This time, the two companies will work on the development of an equipment control system (ECS) that collectively issues instructions for cargo handling equipment inside the terminal, such as intra-transport vehicles, yard cranes, and others, at the best timing based on the overall workload of cargo handling equipment and the condition of the equipment, while understanding the cycle time of each container worked by gantry cranes. The aim is to optimize operations, including shortening the stay time of ships and foreign trailers.
