Rubber Production Up 16.8% In June, Export However Declines 21.6%

Natural Rubber (NR) production increased by 16.8 percent in June 2024 as compared to May 2024, the Department of Statistics in its latest report noted the yoy comparison showed that the production of NR increased by 0.2 per cent (June 2023: 29,867 tonnes).

Production of NR in June 2024 was mainly contributed by smallholders sector (87.6%) as compared to estates sector (12.4%).

Total stocks of NR in June 2024 decreased by 8.5 per cent to 160,535 tonnes as compared to 175,381 tonnes in May 2024. Rubber processors factory contributed 90.1 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (9.8%) and rubber estates (0.1%).

Exports of Malaysia's NR amounted to 39,800 tonnes in June 2024, decreased 21.6 per cent as against May 2024 (50,798 tonnes). P.R. China remained as the main destination for NR exports which accounted 35.7 per cent of total exports in June 2024 followed by Germany (11.8%), India (11.0%), the United Arab Emirates (6.6%) and the United States of America (6.2%).

DOSM said the performance of the second quarter of 2024 showed natural rubber production decreased by 11.6 per cent to 76,848 tonnes as compared to 86,944 tonnes in the first quarter of 2024. The annual performance of Malaysia's natural rubber production in the second quarter of 2024 recorded a decrease of 0.8 per cent as compared to the first quarter 2024 (77,453 tonnes).
