According to the data released by the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau, the number of inbound tourists in Macao exceeded 16 million in the first half of this year, an increase of 43.6% compared to the same period last year. The number of international tourists was close to 1.17 million, up 146.3% year-on-year. The number of group inbound tourists in the first half of this year reached 0.968 million, an increase of 1.7 times year-on-year; international group tourists increased 8.4 times to 0.102 million, showing that group tours are attractive to tourists.
In addition, entering the peak period of summer vacation in August, the temporary data shows that from August 1st to 12th, the number of tourists has exceeded 1.48 million, with an average of about 0.124 million per day, and the highest number on a single day is 154,542 on August 10th.
The Macao Tourism Bureau has held and supported a series of grand events and activities this year, many of which have rich international elements, to promote Macao and help expand its customer base. The 12th Macao International Travel Expo, which was held successfully this April, brought together travel agencies, tourism-related institutions and enterprises from 54 countries and regions, as well as 17 national tourism official institutions to participate, and invited nearly 100 representatives from travel agency associations from around the world to visit Macao.
While consolidating the customer base market in Greater China, the Macao Special Administrative Region government focuses on expanding the Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia customer source markets in an orderly manner, and opens up the long-distance markets of Europe and America in an orderly manner. Since the first quarter of this year, large-scale tourism promotion activities have continued to be held in many Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia customer source markets. In this year of double celebration, the Macao SAR government has launched tourism discount projects, “Goodies are waiting for you,” targeting international visitors, and giving away 0.25 million rich gifts to attract more international tourists to choose Macao as their travel destination to experience the “tourism+” element, expand customer sources and promote tourism economy.
In the future, the Macao Tourism Bureau will continue to focus on the axis of"1+4" industrial diversity and "tourism+", and use the appeal of the"Food Capital" to encourage international tourists to "travel to multiple destinations" both online and offline, further leveraging the unique advantages of Macao as a "world tourism and leisure center" and polishing Macao's "golden name card" as an international metropolis.
