Billionaire Soros has made new investments in Apple and other growth tech stocks, and significantly increased his holdings in pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca, while selling stocks in industrial giants such as 3m.

As Warren Buffett reduces his holdings in Apple, "financial giant" Soros' fund has heavy investments in tech stocks such as Apple and Broadcom.

On August 14th, billionaire Soros' investment fund released its latest holdings data. The document shows that Soros Fund Management LLC held $0.16 billion in Apple stocks in the second quarter of this year, while also making new investments in chip and technology stocks such as Broadcom, Micron Technology, Texas Instruments, and Super Micro Computer.

However, not all chip companies have been favored by Soros Fund Management LLC. The company sold its shares in Qualcomm and Ambarella Inc. while also shedding its shares of fintech company Block Inc. In the industrial sector, the company also sold its shares of 3M Corp and Cummins Inc.

It is worth noting that the fund significantly increased its shareholding of AstraZeneca by 2.0515 million shares in the second quarter, causing its total holding to soar to 2.4515 million shares and making it the second largest holding of the fund.

As of the second quarter of 2024, Soros Fund Management LLC's investment portfolio includes 155 stocks. Among them, SPDR S&P 500 Index ETF accounts for 5.6%, AstraZeneca accounts for 4.37%, and Xilinx Inc. accounts for 3.84%. These investments span 10 industries, mainly in the fields of medical care, consumer, and industrial.

Specifically, in the second quarter of this year, Soros Fund Management LLC established new positions in 47 stocks and significantly increased its holdings in AstraZeneca and other companies:

  • Established a position in SPDR S&P 500 Index ETF, accounting for 5.6% of the investment portfolio, worth $0.2449 billion.

  • Established a position in Champion Corp, accounting for 1.87% of the investment portfolio, worth $81.86 million.

  • Established a position in Alibaba Group, accounting for 1.69% of the investment portfolio, worth $73.8 million.

  • Significantly increased its shareholding of AstraZeneca by 2.0515 million shares, bringing its total holding to 2.4515 million shares and accounting for 4.37% of the investment portfolio, worth $0.1912 billion.

  • Significantly increased its shareholding of WestRock Co. by 2.4429 million shares, bringing its total holding to 3.3429 million shares, worth $0.1682 billion.

Soros Fund Management LLC exited 46 stock positions in the second quarter and reduced its holdings in companies such as Google and Novo Nordisk:

  • All 1.9193 million shares of Equity Commonwealth held by the American private equity firm were sold, affecting the investment portfolio by -2.53%.

  • All 2.059 million shares of Amcor were sold, affecting the investment portfolio by -1.57%.

  • Reduced its holdings of Google by 0.5756 million shares, a proportion of 38.62%, affecting the investment portfolio by -2.04%.

  • Reduced its holdings of Novo Nordisk by 0.6226 million shares, a proportion of 78.06%, affecting the investment portfolio by -1.87%.
