According to the annual financial report survey by Arize AI research platform, more than half of the Fortune Global 500 companies listed artificial intelligence as a potential risk factor for their business.

56% of large US companies see artificial intelligence as a potential risk, compared to only 10% in 2022.

In contrast, among the 108 companies mentioned generating artificial intelligence in their annual reports, only 31% mentioned its benefits or uses outside the risk factor section.

Since 2022, the number of Fortune Global 500 companies listing artificial intelligence as a risk factor in their annual reports has increased by 473.5%.

From the disclosure of artificial intelligence risks across industries, 91.7% of advertising, media and entertainment companies consider it a risk to their business.

Media giant Disney (DIS.US) warns that there is still uncertainty in managing the development of new technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence, which could impact various aspects of our existing business models, including revenue streams from our use of intellectual property and how we create entertainment products.

86.4% of software and technology companies believe that artificial intelligence is a risk. Cloud and business software company Salesforce (CRM.US) says that generative AI content creation will require additional investment in licensing or developing proprietary datasets, machine learning models and systems to test accuracy, bias and other variables, which can be complex, costly and may affect our profit margins.

70% of telecom companies see artificial intelligence as a risk factor, and telecom giant AT&T (T.US) warns that generative AI models may produce incorrect outputs or take incorrect actions, release private or confidential information, reflect biases contained in training data, infringe on the intellectual property of others, or be otherwise harmful.

The report shows that the impact of generative artificial intelligence is being felt across a wide range of industries, even those that have not yet adopted the technology.

Arize AI notes that with most mentions of artificial intelligence as a risk factor, companies have a real opportunity to stand out by highlighting their innovation and providing context on how they are using generative artificial intelligence.
