The futures price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil (WTI) for September delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell by $2.28, or 3%, to settle at $74.37 per barrel.
The futures price of Brent crude oil for October delivery on the Intercontinental Exchange Europe fell by $2, or 2.5%, to settle at $77.68 per barrel.
The White House said on Monday that senior officials will hold talks on the Gaza ceasefire in Cairo by the end of the week.
