Market Might Still Lack Some Conviction On Aishida Co., Ltd (SZSE:002403) Even After 25% Share Price Boost

アイシダ株式会社(SZSE:002403)の株価が25%上昇した後も、市場はまだいくつかの確信に欠けるかもしれません。

Aishida Co., Ltd (SZSE:002403) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 25% after a shaky period beforehand. The bad news is that even after the stocks recovery in the last 30 days, shareholders are still underwater by about 5.9% over the last year.

Even after such a large jump in price, given about half the companies operating in China's Consumer Durables industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 1.6x, you may still consider Aishida as an attractive investment with its 1x P/S ratio. However, the P/S might be low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

How Has Aishida Performed Recently?

Aishida hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. It seems that many are expecting the poor revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Aishida's to be considered reasonable.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 8.0%. This means it has also seen a slide in revenue over the longer-term as revenue is down 21% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 16% as estimated by the one analyst watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 10.0%, which is noticeably less attractive.

With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that Aishida's P/S sits behind most of its industry peers. Apparently some shareholders are doubtful of the forecasts and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

What We Can Learn From Aishida's P/S?

Aishida's stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

A look at Aishida's revenues reveals that, despite glowing future growth forecasts, its P/S is much lower than we'd expect. When we see strong growth forecasts like this, we can only assume potential risks are what might be placing significant pressure on the P/S ratio. While the possibility of the share price plunging seems unlikely due to the high growth forecasted for the company, the market does appear to have some hesitation.

It's always necessary to consider the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 1 warning sign with Aishida, and understanding should be part of your investment process.
