In the afternoon, the Nikkei Average started to rise from the previous day's close (38,117.44 yen) and opened higher at 38,241.90 yen, up 30.89 yen from the previous day. During the lunchtime, the Nikkei 225 futures fluctuated in the range of 38,150 yen to 38,250 yen. The USD/JPY exchange rate was around 1 dollar = 145.50-60 yen, with the yen strengthening and the dollar weakening by about 70 yen from around 9 a.m. In the Asian markets, although the Shanghai Composite Index rose by about 0.3% without a clear direction between the previous day's closing price, the Hang Seng Index fell by about 0.3%. In the afternoon session of the Tokyo market, buying was the main trend compared to the morning session. The market's reaction to the statements made by BOJ Governor UEDA and others at the House of Representatives Financial and Monetary Committee, which attracted attention in the morning session, has been limited, which has created a sense of relief. On the other hand, some investors are refraining from active buying as the yen has slightly strengthened and the dollar has weakened compared to the morning, in addition to the fact that "Jackson Hole Conference" is scheduled for tonight, where Federal Reserve Chairman Powell will give a speech, which they want to assess.

In terms of sectors, precision instruments, other financing business, and construction are among the highest gainers, while electric appliances, wholesale trade, and nonferrous metals are among the highest losers. In terms of trading value on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market, Sharp Corp. <6753>, Orix Corp. <8591>, Asics Corp. <7936>, Daikin Industries <6367>, IHI Corp. <7013>, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries <7011>, Chugai Pharmaceutical <4519>, Daiichi Sankyo <4568>, Fast Retailing <9983>, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries <7012> are performing well. On the other hand, Kokusai Electric <6525>, Laser Tec <6920>, Advantest Corp. <6857>, Sosei Group <6526>, Renesas Electronics <6723>, TDK Corp. <8035>, Sumitomo Forestry <1911>, Sakura Sogo <3778>, Fujikura <5803>, and Komatsu Ltd. <6301> are declining.
