Golden Finance News | Bank of China Hong Kong (02388) announced that the shareholders' attributable net profit for the six-month period ended June 30, 2024 was recorded at HKD 20.04 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.90%; the net profit for the period was recorded at HKD 20.463 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.2%; the basic earnings per share was HKD 1.8954, and the interim dividend was HKD 0.57. The average return on equity for shareholders and the average return on total assets were 12.39% and 1.00% respectively.

During the period, net interest income was recorded at HKD 25.982 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.95%, mainly due to the growth of average interest-earning assets and the seizing of opportunities in the rising market interest rates. The dynamic management of assets and liabilities drove the improvement of net interest spread, which was 1.46%. If the income or cost of the foreign exchange forward contracts is included, the adjusted net interest spread after adjustment is 1.61%, a year-on-year increase of 5 basis points. This is mainly due to the rising market interest rates, the dynamic management of assets and liabilities by the group, active control of deposit costs, widening of the loan-to-deposit spread, and the increase in bond investment returns.

During the period, the net operating income before provision for impairment was recorded at HKD 35.336 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.59% and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 2%. The quarter-on-quarter increase is mainly due to the increase in net fee and commission income and net trading income, offsetting the impact of the decrease in net interest income.

During the period, the total capital ratio was 22.17%; the Tier 1 capital ratio and the Tier 1 common equity capital ratio were both 20.05%; the non-performing loan ratio was 1.06%, which continued to outperform the market average level.
