On Wednesday, there was news that OpenAI is in talks for a new round of financing, planning to raise billions of dollars with a valuation of over $100 billion. Thrive Capital, a venture capital firm, will lead this round of financing with an investment of $1 billion. In addition, as the largest shareholder of OpenAI,$Microsoft (MSFT.US)$will also participate in this round of financing.

Insiders said that Apple is negotiating with OpenAI for investment, and Nvidia has also discussed joining the latest round of financing for OpenAI.

According to reports, Sarah Friar, Chief Financial Officer of OpenAI, stated in a memo on Wednesday that the company is seeking new financing, but did not disclose specific details. Friar said that OpenAI will use this financing to obtain more computing power and provide funding for other operational expenses.

It is currently unclear how much Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft plan to invest. If the negotiations are successful, it means that the three most valuable tech companies in the world will all become shareholders of OpenAI.

OpenAI was initially a non-profit organization and was converted to a for-profit startup in 2019. Since then, Microsoft has invested a total of 13 billion US dollars in OpenAI, owning 49% of the shares.

Apple announced the launch of the Apple Intelligence system at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June this year, and also announced its partnership with OpenAI.

Apple announced at the time that it plans to integrate OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT into its system platform later this year, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, supported by GPT-4o.

Apple has invested heavily in its manufacturing partners over the years, partially to ensure the supply of its device components, but the company rarely invests in startups.

In contrast, as a leading AI stock, Nvidia is more active in the investment field. Since 2023, Nvidia's investment department NVentures has invested in more than ten AI pharmaceutical companies.
