The Song and Qin families remain the best-selling BYD models, both selling more than 70,000 units in August.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) today reported August sales of its new energy vehicles (NEVs), followed by breakdown figures showing the performance of different brands and models.
Overall, the Song and Qin families continue to be the best-selling BYD models, each with more than 70,000 sales in August, while the Sealion 07 and Frigate 07 performed poorly.
The Song family of models sold 76,793 units in August, overtaking the Qin family as the top-selling BYD model. That was up 32.54 percent year-on-year and up 17.65 percent from July.
The Song family models on sale include the Song L EV, Song L DM-i, and Song Pro DM-i of the Dynasty series, and the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i of the Ocean series.
BYD's Dynasty series of Song models sold 36,306 units in August, up 72.89 percent year-on-year and up 28.16 percent from 28,328 units in July.
Its Ocean series of Song models sold 40,487 units in August, up 9.6 percent year-on-year and up 9.58 percent from 36,947 units in July.
The Qin family of models was the second-highest selling BYD model in August with 70,457 units sold. That was up 56.56 percent year-on-year but down 4.19 percent from July.
The Qin was the top-selling BYD model in July, the first time in the past year that it dethroned the Song family, which were in the top spot in sales.
The BYD Seal sold 54,835 units in August, overtaking the Yuan family as BYD's third best-selling model, up 862.02 percent year-on-year and up 63.22 percent from July.
The Seal family models include the Seal EV, Seal DM-i, Seal 06 DM-i, and Seal 07 DM-i.
The surge in Seal sales may be due to the increased production capacity of models equipped with fifth-generation DM technology.
BYD introduced DM 5.0 technology on May 28 and released the Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i, which are the first two models equipped with the technology and have a combined range of more than 2,000 kilometers.
On August 8, BYD launched the 2025 Seal EV and the new Seal 07 DM-i.
The BYD Yuan family sold 42,179 units in August, up 29.14 percent year-on-year and up 3 percent from July.
The BYD Seagull sold 40,949 units in August, up 17.53 percent year-on-year and up 12.94 percent from July.
The Seagull was launched on April 26, 2023, and is the cheapest BYD model. BYD launched the 2025 BYD Seagull on August 1 with unchanged prices and core specifications.
The BYD Han family sold 17,029 units in August, down 25.18 percent year-on-year and 5.67 percent from July.
The BYD Chaser 05 sold 15,333 units in August, up 26.80 percent year-on-year but 40.01 percent lower than in July.
The BYD Dolphin sold 15,164 units in August, down 53.69 percent year-on-year but up 22.3 percent from July.
The BYD Tang sold 12,069 units in August, down 1.41 percent year-on-year but up 0.11 percent from July.
The BYD Sealion 07 sold 7,023 units in August, up 0.23 percent from 7,007 in July.
The model was launched on May 10 and is the first model of BYD's new technology platform e-Platform 3.0 Evo.
BYD e2 sold 692 units in August, down 60.68 percent year-on-year but up 0.44 percent from July.
The BYD Frigate 07 sold 409 units in August, down 91.12 percent year-on-year but up 29.43 percent from July.
BYD's NEVs include passenger NEVs and commercial NEVs, with the former including different brands including BYD, Denza, Yangwang and Fang Cheng Bao.
BYD Group sold 370,854 units of passenger NEVs and 2,229 units of commercial NEVs in 8.
The BYD brand of passenger cars, which includes the Dynasty and Ocean series, sold 352,932 units in August, up 34.53 percent year-on-year and 8.36 percent from July.
BYD's premium Denza brand delivered 9,989 units in August, down 13.25 percent year-on-year and down 3.39 percent from July.
BYD's personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao delivered 4,876 vehicles in August, up 164.71 percent from 1,842 in July.
Fang Cheng Bao's first model, the Bao 5, was officially launched on November 9, 2023, and deliveries began on November 23.
On July 29, Fang Cheng Bao reduced the prices of all four variants of the Bao 5 by RMB50,000 ($7,050).
Yangwang delivered 310 vehicles in August, including 303 U8 off-road SUVs and seven U9 electric supercars.
The ultra-luxury sub-brand of BYD launched its first model, the U8, on September 20, 2023, with deliveries beginning on November 24.
The U9 went on sale on February 25, with deliveries beginning in late August.
