It's Down 25% But Golden Faith Group Holdings Limited (HKG:2863) Could Be Riskier Than It Looks

株式会社ゴールデンフェイスグループホールディングス(HKG:2863)は見た目以上にリスキーかもしれませんが、25%下落しています

The Golden Faith Group Holdings Limited (HKG:2863) share price has fared very poorly over the last month, falling by a substantial 25%. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 18% in that time.

Even after such a large drop in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Golden Faith Group Holdings' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Construction industry in Hong Kong, seeing as it matches the P/S ratio of the wider industry. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Has Golden Faith Group Holdings Performed Recently?

The revenue growth achieved at Golden Faith Group Holdings over the last year would be more than acceptable for most companies. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to only keep up with the broader industry, which has keeping the P/S in line with expectations. Those who are bullish on Golden Faith Group Holdings will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like Golden Faith Group Holdings' is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a worthy increase of 15%. This was backed up an excellent period prior to see revenue up by 284% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 9.7% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this information, we find it interesting that Golden Faith Group Holdings is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What Does Golden Faith Group Holdings' P/S Mean For Investors?

Following Golden Faith Group Holdings' share price tumble, its P/S is just clinging on to the industry median P/S. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

To our surprise, Golden Faith Group Holdings revealed its three-year revenue trends aren't contributing to its P/S as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current industry expectations. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.

Having said that, be aware Golden Faith Group Holdings is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those can't be ignored.
