Cathay Pacific Airways announced that due to engine component failures on its A350 aircraft, the company has decided to conduct comprehensive 'preventive inspections' on all 48 Airbus SE A350 fleets. This A350 engine component failure is the first of its kind globally. As a result, Rolls-Royce's stock price briefly plunged by over 6% and Airbus's stock price briefly plunged by over 1.3%.

Cathay Pacific Airways announced that due to the discovery of engine component issues on an A350 aircraft, the company has decided to conduct a comprehensive "precautionary inspection" on all 48 Airbus SE A350 fleets.

Previously, on September 2nd, an A350 aircraft flying to Zurich was forced to return to Hong Kong due to an engine component failure. Cathay Pacific Airways discovered that "multiple identical engine components need to be replaced" after subsequent checks, but the company did not specify the issues found on the engine.

This incident caused a drop in the stock prices of Airbus and Rolls-Royce (the manufacturer of the A350 engine). Rolls-Royce (RR/.LN) experienced a sudden plunge around 21:25 Beijing time, with the decline quickly expanding to 6%, while Airbus' stock price fell more than 1.3%, marking the third consecutive trading day of decline. Both companies are among the top decliners in the pan-European Stoxx 600 index.

It is worth noting that the stock prices of both companies had already started to decline before Cathay Pacific Airways announced the inspection news. Part of the reason was the large-scale strike protests in Israel, putting pressure on the government to reach a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

In its statement, Cathay Pacific Airways stated that this A350 aircraft engine component failure is the first of its kind globally. The company has notified the aircraft and engine manufacturers, as well as relevant regulatory authorities, of the situation. To ensure safety, Cathay Pacific Airways is fully procuring the necessary replacement components and delivering them to Hong Kong to assist with the repair work.

Due to the need for several aircraft to be grounded for several days for repairs, Cathay Pacific Airways has had to adjust its flight schedule. Currently, 24 round-trip flights for the next two days have been cancelled, and affected customers have been notified. The company will release the remaining flight adjustment information as soon as possible tomorrow.
