TOP GLOVE RELEASES INDUSTRY LEADING LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT RESULTS FOR NITRILE GLOVES
Results highlight Top Glove's ongoing commitment to producing environmentally friendly gloves and minimising carbon emissions towards fostering a more sustainable future
SHAH ALAM, Tuesday, 3 September 2024 Top Glove Corporation Bhd, the world's largest manufacturer of gloves, has announced the results of its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for conventional and biodegradable nitrile powder free gloves, underscoring the company's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. The LCA, verified by independent third party SATRA Technology, evaluates the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal.
The LCA results revealed that the Group's conventional nitrile powder free glove (Size M, 3.5g) emits 0.0277 kg CO2 equivalent per piece, while its biodegradable nitrile powder free glove (Size M, 3.5g) emits 0.0254 kg CO2 equivalent per piece. These findings reflect Top Glove's ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and advancing sustainability in its product offerings.
Commenting on the results, Top Glove Managing Director Mr. Lim Cheong Guan said: "These LCA results are not just figures; they represent our commitment to promoting sustainability within the glove manufacturing industry. By providing precise data on our products' environmental impact, we empower consumers and businesses to make better environmental choices. This aligns with our vision of creating a healthier world through responsible manufacturing practices."
The LCA is a powerful tool that helps consumers and businesses make informed decisions about the environmental impact of the products they use. By examining every stage of a product's life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal, Top Glove is taking a transparent approach to sustainability, promoting the conservation of natural resources and reducing carbon footprints.
Additional Milestones
In addition to the LCA, Top Glove is pleased to announce 2 significant milestones: the company has successfully obtained the EU Medical Device Regulation, EU MDR CE certification from an accredited EU Notified Body for a diverse range of surgical gloves, including those made from latex, polyisoprene, polychloroprene, and sterile examination gloves. More than 30 of Top Glove's key products have also been certified by SATRA under the EU Personal Protective Equipment Regulation (EU PPER).
Furthermore, Top Glove has successfully delivered its first shipment of natural rubber gloves fully traceable to their plantation origins, demonstrating the Group's commitment to full compliance with the EU Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR), which has been achieved ahead of the 30 December 2024 deadline.
These accomplishments showcase Top Glove's unwavering dedication to sustainability and also set a benchmark for the industry, encouraging others to follow suit in minimising environmental impact. As global demand for sustainable products grows, Top Glove is poised to meet this need with environmentally conscious innovations that contribute to a more sustainable future.
