Insiders At Boise Cascade Sold US$4.6m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 9 07:30

Many Boise Cascade Company (NYSE:BCC) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Boise Cascade

The insider, Dean Brown, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.5m worth of shares at a price of US$139 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$124. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership Of Boise Cascade

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Boise Cascade insiders own about US$48m worth of shares. That equates to 1.0% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
