At the end of 13 days ago, the number of rising stocks in the Nikkei average constituent stocks was 55, the number of declining stocks was 168, and the number of unchanged stocks was 2.
The Nikkei average fell. It ended the morning session at 36,507.10 yen (volume approximately 1,020 million shares), down 326.17 yen (-0.89%) from the previous day.
The U.S. stock market continued to rise on the 12th. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 41,096.77, up 235.06 dollars (+0.58%). The NASDAQ closed at 17,569.68, up 174.15 points (+1.00%). The S&P 500 closed at 5,595.76, up 41.63 points (+0.75%). Despite the August Producer Price Index (PPI) exceeding expectations and the view that the rate cut trajectory remained unchanged, the semiconductor companies like NVIDIA were strong, leading to an initial rise. At the same time, disappointment in the slow pace of interest rate cuts led to some selling and a temporary decline, but the market remained firm due to support from the high-tech sector. Towards the end, there was an accelerated buyback due to expectations after the Wall Street Journal pointed out the possibility of a significant interest rate cut, leading to a substantial rally at the end.
Despite the rise in U.S. stocks, the strong yen trend weighed down the Tokyo market, causing a slow start. After the opening, the Nikkei average continued to struggle around the 36,800 yen level, but the acceleration of the strong yen, with the exchange rate reaching the 140 yen level, led to a sluggish movement in the Nikkei average. The preliminary settlement index (SQ) value of the September option and futures, calculated at the start, was 36,906.92 yen. The Nikkei average did not exceed this value during the trading hours, so it became a 'phantom SQ' at the time of the closing bell.

On the other hand, Kawasaki Heavy <7012> was bought as US securities recommended it as a new purchase, and Mitsukoshi Isetan HD <3099> was also bought due to a positive report from a securities company. In addition, some semiconductors stocks such as Sociomedia Next <6526> and Advantest <6857> were firm due to the material of NASDAQ's rise. In addition, Ebara Corporation <6361>, Shiseido <4911>, Denki Kagaku Kogyo <3405>, Disco <6146>, and Ion <8267> were bought.
