An Indian film producer accuses Netflix's popular TV series 'Squid Game' of plagiarizing his 2009 film. The company is preparing to launch the second season of the program later this year.

Producer Soham Shah filed a lawsuit against Netflix in a New York federal court on Friday, accusing the show of 'openly plagiarizing' his Hindi film 'Luck,' which tells the story of 'a group of desperate and heavily indebted people lured into a series of competitive games to win a huge prize,' only to find out that losing the game means losing their lives.

Shah stated in the lawsuit that 'the main plot, characters, themes, emotions, settings, and sequence of events' in 'Squid Game' are remarkably similar to his film 'Luck,' and such a degree of similarity cannot be a coincidence.

'Squid Game' created history in 2022 and received acclaim at the Emmy Awards. The production cost of the series reached a staggering $2.1 million, and within just four weeks of its premiere, it accumulated a total viewing time of 1.65 billion hours. The show has been one of Netflix's most popular series for several months. The company announced in July that the second season will be released on December 26th, and the third and final season will be launched in 2025.
