InterDigital has been recognized for its contributions to the MPEG immersive standard and advanced HDR solutions.
WILMINGTON, Delaware, September 19, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- InterDigital (Nasdaq: IDCC), a company focused on mobile, video, and AI technology research and development, has won two CSI Awards in recognition of its outstanding performance in video processing solutions and immersive video experience delivery. The CSI Awards, hosted by Cable & Satellite International (CSI) magazine, aim to recognize innovation and excellence in the fields of cable, satellite, broadcasting, IPTV, telecommunications, broadband/OTT video, mobile television, and related areas. The CSI Awards are presented annually at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, and this year's winners were announced on September 13, 2024.
"The prestigious CSI Awards highlight the impact of our foundational research in immersive video and HDR solutions. I extend heartfelt congratulations to our engineers and inventors for making this honor possible," said Rajesh Pankaj, Chief Technology Officer. "These awards are a strong testament to our ability to maintain a high level of research and innovation in the industry."
In the Best Immersive Video Award category, InterDigital stood out and was honored for its cutting-edge video technology innovations and contributions to the MPEG immersive standard. These contributions have played a vital role in ensuring interoperability for immersive experiences, maintaining a consistent data transfer rate, and providing innovative solutions for large-scale immersive experiences. MPEG's Volume-based Video Coding (V3C) standard defines a common mechanism for encoding and streaming volumetric content using two primary codecs: Video Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) and MPEG Immersive Video (MIV). InterDigital is a major contributor to both of these codecs. These codecs can be widely applied in various scenarios that enhance immersive experiences, from entertainment and leisure to remote learning, as well as increasingly used in live broadcasting and esports, ensuring users can enjoy efficient, stable, and seamless large-scale viewing experiences on various devices. InterDigital is also at the forefront of the MPEG-I Haptic standard, which outlines how to create, transmit, and render haptic content at scale, and is exploring how to deliver large-scale haptic-enhanced immersive video experiences to audiences with different device capabilities and requirements.
In the Best Video Processing Technology Award category, InterDigital was awarded for its contribution to Technicolor's advanced HDR solution, which optimizes HDR technology to adapt to OTT streaming, providing an excellent viewing experience without increasing processing and bandwidth requirements. InterDigital's collaboration with royal philips and Technicolor has introduced Technicolor's advanced HDR solution, a suite of high dynamic range (HDR) production, distribution, and display solutions that maximize image quality for any HDR format using machine learning. To ensure that traditional SDR content meets modern HDR standards, InterDigital has contributed to advanced HDR capabilities, supporting seamless integration of SDR and HDR content in a single workflow while reducing costs through automated conversion.
