Insider Buying: AerSale Chairman Bought US$107k Of Shares

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 21 08:01

Investors who take an interest in AerSale Corporation (NASDAQ:ASLE) should definitely note that the Chairman, Nicolas Finazzo, recently paid US$5.36 per share to buy US$107k worth of the stock. However, it only increased shareholding by a small percentage, and it wasn't a huge purchase by absolute value, either.

AerSale Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider George Bauer bought US$6.3m worth of shares at a price of US$14.90 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$5.32. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 672.83k shares for US$7.2m. But insiders sold 1.14k shares worth US$5.8k. Overall, AerSale insiders were net buyers during the last year. The average buy price was around US$10.63. This is nice to see since it implies that insiders might see value around current prices. AerSale is not the only stock insiders are buying. So take a peek at this free list of under-the-radar companies with insider buying.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. AerSale insiders own about US$70m worth of shares. That equates to 24% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About AerSale Insiders?

It is good to see recent purchasing. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. Insiders likely see value in AerSale shares, given these transactions (along with notable insider ownership of the company). So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. While conducting our analysis, we found that AerSale has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore it.
