Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Zscaler

Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Zscaler

Some Zscaler, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZS) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Chief Financial Officer, Remo Canessa, recently sold a substantial US$1.4m worth of stock at a price of US$171 per share. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 4.9%.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Zscaler

Zscaler

The insider, Ajay Mangal, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$11m worth of shares at a price of US$198 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$173. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Does Zscaler Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Zscaler insiders own about US$9.9b worth of shares (which is 38% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
